Two weeks of tangles in one post!
Hello everyone! We've been super busy lately. We had some friends in town, we started potty training our daughter and we are getting ready for her birthday that is coming up soon! I ran out of time and didn't get a blog post up last week, so I will include my tangles from last week in this post. 😊
Last week, for Joey's Challenge she started us out with a mystery tangle that looked a little like a wave. (Eventually it was discovered that the tangle was Crest V2 by Susanne Davis). I did a water themed tile a couple weeks ago and wanted to do something different this time. So I decided to use tangles to represent earth, air, fire, and water. For water I used the tangle Joey had given us. While browsing the TanglePatterns site I came accross a tangle by Rosemary Turpin called Sunspots. With a name like that I couldn't resist using it to make a sun to represent fire. I used Inapod for the rays. Sandswirl worked nicely for air and I used Tupuk (a new tangle by Ria) for earth since it looks like stones. I used my Prisma colored pencils to color the tile.

I also did the Diva tile for last week. The challenge was to use the tangle Siri. I also used flux and did some experimenting with Lealad.

Over the weekend we took our daughter to the zoo and there was some horsetail grass growing near one of the play areas. It reminded me of fishing at my Grandpa's pond when I was a kid, because there was always lots of horsetail grass growing near the water. When I was little I was quite fascinated by it because it was hollow like a straw. It was fun to pull apart the little segments that fit inside each other and to feel its ribbed texture. I took a picture of the grass at the zoo, but plant life here hasn't quite recovered from the winter. So the grass in my picture is not as pretty as it could be, but at least you can get the idea of how it looks. There are many prettier images you can find with a Google search for horsetail grass.

I thought it might be kind of fun to incorporate the horsetail grass into my Zentangles somehow. I don't really know all the Zentangle rules, but I made a little pattern for myself inspired by the grass. I named it Elojoe, combining parts of my daughter's and my Grandpa's names. My Grandpa passed away last year, so the tangle is in remembrance of him.
I'm not really sure if it counts as a real tangle or not, but it was fun to make anyway!
I tried out the pattern with Joey's Challenge this week. She started us out with a ribbon and some Pokeleaf. Here is how it turned out for me.

Then I did a couple tiles just for fun so I could draw the horsetail grass a little more. 😊

Congratulations, Lisa! You cratetd your first own tanglepattern and used it very well in your tiles. All of them are very beautiful. My favorite this week is the one for Joey's challenge with the combination of Pokeleaf and your new pattern.

DeleteI agree with Margarete, a great post with beautiful tiles. I'm honoured to see appearing Tupuk on such a wonderful tile. The tangles you have chosen for the sun look great too. This is an original gorgeous tile. I didn' t know Sunspots but now I do and I will use it too in the future. Your organic pattern Elojoe is lovely and you have integrated it in a fantastic way in Joey's challenge. That one is my fave of this post, congratulations!

ReplyDeleteThanks! I had a lot fun coloring those Siri gemstones. Siri is a great tangle to use in a background or border, but I wanted to try make it more of a centerpiece for this tile.
DeleteYour designs and the way you draw all the tangles so perfectly, I can only look and stare in amazement! However, Lisa, what you did on the 2nd tile, those glossy Siri gemstones, they by themselves are showstoppers! Honestly! At first, I didn't even notice Siri beneath the shin and glare (the glare must have blinded my eyes, LOL). I am also blown away how you drew Tupuk with all those tiny lines and details. Just amazing! And thank you, Lisa, for the Horsetail grass tangle. It looks absolutely great in your tiles, especially the last one. Tip: add your name, date, and maybe your main web address to your step outs. You deserve ownership!
